So after the first test nothing broke. Turning was excellent and none of the track pads fell off.
So far so good.
I have also started work on the turret turning mechanism. I am going to use an old 12v power drill motor which will give me more than enough power. The lazy susan tooth gear will be driven by the gear connected to a custom made gear box.
